BEHH 30 Days and Counting

Only 30 days till BEHH 2012.  Logan and I have sure been busy getting things ready. Here are some key items.

1.  Hunters. 5 hunters, many having been in Walter Reed Army Hospital are coming from the VA area. CPT Lee Stuckey, USMC, is brining 4 wounded Marines and1 wounded Soldier.  75th Ranger Regiment, FT Benning, GA is sending 6 wounded Rangers.  Al Goetzinger of FT Benning GA, is bringing 2 additional wounded Soldiers.  Al is one of our original 3 Soldiers from last year’s hunt.  And finally, we will have 2 local men who are no longer in the Military Service.

2.  Hunting Land and Billeting.  These folks are providing Hunting Land, Guides, and/or Billet space for the hunters and a few other key players. First, Bob Dixon.  We can’t thank him enough for his contributions to this project.  Not only is he providing billeting and land to hunt, he is allowing us to use his facilities as the base of operations for the entire hunt.  Others providing either hunting/billeting or both are:  Tony Atkins, David Anderson,  Robert Molette, Ben Mitchell, Michael C. Dixon, Sr., Michael C. Dixon, Jr., Jeff Mira, Kenny Childree, Albert Simpson, Chuck Thomas, James Anderson,   Benny Whitehead, Eddie Whitehead, Tom Corcoran, LeRoy Upshaw, Chip Chapman and Butch LeCompte.  Many thanks to these folks who are key to making this project go.

3.  Food and Beverage.  The Fellowship Sunday School Class and the SH Dent Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy have volunteered to help provide snacks and home made goodies for the soldiers and to help with breakfast fare.   Britt Washington of Willy T’s and Dennis Durance of Phil’s BBQ are providing major meal support.

4.  Throughout the Wiregrass community, support is turning out in droves.  Logan and I truly appreciate all everyone is doing to help this project be a success and to show these Soldiers we care.

Michael H. Davis

Colonel, US Army Retired

We have decided to conduct this season’s hunt 19-22 January.  Hunters will arrive on 19 December at the reception station at the Davis’s home.  They will meet their sponsors and go to their respective lodging.  Hunts will be conducted 20-21 January and all will depart 22 January.  This should provide the best hunting environment for Alabama deer hunting.

Um-logo6On Sunday, 4 September 2011, the church council of FUMC Eufaula, voted to charter our hunt for wounded soldiers as an outreach ministry.  In addition to having the church’s full support in this endeavor,  it will give church members an avenue of service as well as  give donors an avenue to get tax deductions for their donations.  The exact mechanics of donating are being determined by the church’s staff and pastor and that information will follow shortly.  This is a big victory for BEHH and we know we can raise the bar on the 2011-2012 event for our Soldiers.

Of note is his work with the 75th Ranger Regiment at FT  Benning. 700px-75_Ranger_Regiment_Shoulder_Sleeve_Insignia_svg While January seems to be a long way off in this hot August time, this year’s hunt will be here before we know it and we have to maintain our momentum.

We are also expecting Marines from the Montgomery area and 5 service members from the VA area.

Looking forward to January and another great hunt,

Mike
